🧬 Peptides are everywhere right now.
Biohackers love them.
Influencers inject them.
Patients ask me about them weekly.
So what are they really? 🤷♂️
🧬 What Are Peptides?
-Short chains of amino acids (tiny fragments of proteins)
-Act as signaling molecules in the body
-Some are naturally occurring (e.g. insulin), others are synthetic (e.g. Ozempic, BPC-157)
-Designed to “tell” your body to repair, grow, or regulate something
Think of them as text messages to your cells 📲
🧬💉 The synthetic peptide I get asked most often about these days is BPC-157 (which is one of the ones that may become more accessible), so let's talk about it.
⸻
💥 BPC-157
BPC-157 = “Body Protection Compound”
Originally derived from gastric juice. Yes… your stomach.
What people claim it does 👇:
🦴 Accelerates tendon & ligament healing
💪 Speeds up muscle recovery
🩹 Improves soft tissue repair
🧠 Helps nerve healing
🩸 Promotes angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation)
Sounds like an orthopedic dream, right?

📚 What Does the Evidence Actually Say About BPC-157?
Here’s the reality:
-Most data is animal studies (rats) 🐀
-Very limited high-quality human trials
-Not FDA-approved for musculoskeletal injury treatment
-Dosing, purity, and sourcing are highly variable
-Long-term safety data = basically unknown
In rodents? Impressive ✅
In humans? We don’t know yet 🚨

⚖️ My Clinical Take
As an orthopedic surgeon:
Could it eventually play a role in tendon/ligament healing? Possibly.
Is it a substitute for proper rehab, sleep, nutrition, and progressive loading? Absolutely not.
Would I recommend it broadly right now? No.
Recovery isn’t about secret injections.
It’s about:
🏋️ Progressive mechanical loading
💤 Sleep
Adequate protein
🧠 Patience
Boring wins.
